Singer Alka Yagnik, known for her popular Bollywood songs from the 90s, has developed a rare neurological issue. She shared on social media that she is now unable to hear.
Alka explained that she developed this issue after a viral attack and realized she couldn’t hear while getting off a flight. She advised fans and fellow artists to avoid loud music when sharing her condition.
Alka Yagnik Herself Shared About Her Condition
On Instagram, Alka wrote, “To all my fans, friends, followers, and supporters. A few weeks ago, as I was exiting a flight, I suddenly realized I couldn’t hear anything. After taking some time to gather my thoughts in the weeks that followed, I now want to speak up about this issue. Many of you have been asking where I’ve been, and I feel it’s time to share.”
Alka added, “My doctors have identified it as a rare condition of sensory nerve hearing loss, triggered by a viral infection. This sudden and significant setback has deeply surprised me. I’m working on accepting it, and I ask for your prayers during this time.”
In her advice to fans and fellow singers, Alka wrote, “I want to caution my fans and young colleagues about using headphones and listening to loud music. Someday, I will discuss how it has affected my career and health. With your love and support, I aim to regain control of my life and hope to see you all again soon. Your support and understanding are invaluable to me during this challenging period.”
Alka Yagnik is widely celebrated not just in Bollywood but throughout India. She has sung over 21,000 songs in more than 25 languages and has received the National Award twice. In 2022, the Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged her as the world’s most streamed artist.
