‘Struggle Is Real’ Says Sutapa Sikdar On Life After Irrfan Khan

Sutapa Sikdar, writer-producer renowned for her work in Kahaani and Madaari, revealed the ongoing emotional struggle she faces since the death of her husband, celebrated actor Irrfan Khan. Struggling To Cope After Irrfan’s Passing

Irrfan Khan passed away in 2020 after battling a neuroendocrine tumor and complications from a colon infection. Reflecting on the loss, Sutapa admitted, “It’s not just about losing a husband; it’s about losing a 35-year-old friend who lived with you 24×7. It’s an everyday struggle, and I’m just trying to overcome it.” She emphasized how deeply their connection impacted her, making his absence profoundly challenging to adjust to.

Writing As A Path To Healing

Sutapa, who has always been passionate about writing, shared how she is trying to channel her emotions creatively. “Artistically, I’m trying to write a book about Irrfan, filled with anecdotes from our lives. It’s not a preachy one but a fun, heartfelt account. I’m also working on a film script, which isn’t about him,” she explained.

However, the process hasn’t been easy. For three years, Sutapa found herself unable to write due to the mental and emotional toll of grief. She revealed, “I just didn’t have the mental space for it. The world did a 360-degree turn, and I was completely shattered after Irrfan’s passing.”

Rebuilding Life For Her Children

Sutapa highlighted how her focus shifted to her children, Babil and Ayaan, after Irrfan’s demise. She acknowledged that rebuilding life for her kids has been her priority, despite facing her own struggles. “I panicked after Irrfan’s death and became the worst version of myself. But my children and I are slowly coping together,” she said.Babil Khan, who debuted as an actor in The Railway Men in 2023, has been navigating his career while dealing with constant comparisons to his father. Sutapa expressed pride in Babil’s acting chops but acknowledged the challenges he faces due to the legacy Irrfan left behind.

Irrfan Khan’s remarkable contributions to cinema and his deeply personal relationships continue to influence those he left behind. Sutapa’s journey, filled with both struggle and strength, reflects her determination to honor Irrfan’s memory while finding a way to move forward.
