New Delhi: The Bihar minister, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, said strict action will be taken against double-meaning Bhojpuri songs. Yadav, the minister of planning and development, said in the Assembly that the police have also been told to take action against Bhojpuri songs with provocative caste overtones, which frequently lead to social unrest and violence.
In reply to the calling attention motion, Yadav said, “Police are bound to initiate action if a complaint is filed in this regard. The Special Branch of Bihar Police has already issued instructions to district police units over this.”
He promised that those who create such songs and videos would face harsh punishment.
Moving the motion, Congress MLA Pratima Kumari expressed grave concern about the vulgarity and provocative caste overtones in Bhojpuri songs.
She said, “We are not against the promotion of art and culture but these double-meaning songs often lead to social unrest. The government must take strict action against those who produce such songs.”
It has also been observed that local police do not take action against those who produce such songs, she claims.
According to CPI(M) MLA Ajay Kumar, despite orders from the headquarters, local police do not take action against obscenity and double entendres in Bhojpuri songs.
“Punishment should be meted out to such singers and musicians,” he said.
