Fans expressed discomfort about Choi’s participation in the Netflix series due to his past legal issues. In 2017, the former K-pop star faced legal trouble for marijuana use and was sentenced to 10 months in prison, a sentence that was later suspended for two years. The series director addressed the issue, stating, “The incident happened long ago, and the sentence has been served. Many artists have returned after similar incidents, so I thought it might be an appropriate time for him to return to work.”
2. Season 2 Staff Controversy
A new discussion has emerged regarding recent allegations involving the filming team. In a post from July on an online forum, a user shared their experience with a staff member from Squid Game 2, suggesting that the individual believed being part of the shoot was a privilege. This has sparked conversations about the treatment of crew members during production.
The post highlighted a situation where an employee at Incheon Airport in South Korea exhibited rude behaviour. In response, the Squid Game 2 team sincerely apologized and regretted any inconvenience caused.
3. Students Re-enacting Games
The immense popularity of the Netflix show Squid Game has led to troubling situations in schools, where kids are mimicking the games from the series. Reports indicate that this has resulted in fights on playgrounds as children act out these competitions. In response, some schools are cautioning parents about their kids playing games inspired by the show. For example, a school in Belgium called Communal d’Erquelinnes Centre took to Facebook to alert parents, emphasizing that the content of the show is not suitable for children. They shared a post stating: “We are very vigilant to stop this unhealthy and dangerous game! We rely on your support and collaboration to raise awareness of the consequences this can bring about. Penalties will be imposed on the children who will continue this game (to hit other children).”
