Spoiler

In-Ho, who captivated audiences as the enigmatic Front Man in the thrilling finale of Season 1, makes an epic return. This time, however, he’s not just leading the game, he’s in the competition as the mysterious new Player 001, going by the name Young-il. Watch the series as he participates in the games alongside other players, only to betray them in the final episode and return to his Front Man persona.

Why the Front Man took on the role of Player 001

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hwang explained that he had the character In-ho enter the game disguised as Player 001 because Gi-hun (Player 456), the main character, doesn’t recognize him by his appearance but only by his voice. The director of Season 2 said: “We needed a new 001. I thought I would tell that story of him coming into the game, observing and manipulating Gi-hun, pretending to help but in fact bringing all of his attempts to a failure.”

Hwang shared that In-ho had a reason for joining the game that was similar to Gi-hun’s. Both characters faced tough challenges in their lives, which drove them to take part in the game. “He [In-ho] experienced all of the cruelties, saw the rock bottom of humanity, and was extremely disappointed, which led to him giving up humanity altogether. That’s how he became a host. Much like the story of Darth Vader who couldn’t become a Jedi.”
