Squid Game, one of the most popular and iconic shows on Netflix, has ended with its third season and has left the audience heartbroken. The death of several popular characters in the finale got mixed reactions, but the show has also given hope for its spin-off with its open ending.
Amid the debate, a major update has stirred excitement as Squid Game is officially making its way to America. After delivering three massively successful seasons in Korea, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is now teaming up with acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher for an American spin-off. The new series will have a fresh cast, an original storyline, and its own release schedule completely separate from the Korean timeline.
It’s not confirmed whether Cate Blanchett will play the recruiter or some other character. According to Collider, the spin-off might even include a crossover with the Korean series, but this time the games will be played by English speaking players.
Everything we know about Squid Game America
Filming is expected to begin next year, and Los Angeles and California are likely to be the main shooting locations. The plot is still being kept secret, but reports say the story will take place in the same universe as the original Squid Game. The American version will have its own cultural flavour but is expected to run alongside the Korean storyline.
Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed the spin-off yet, but the show is listed on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website. The listing shows that Zeus Zamani and Rhett Giles will join David Fincher and Hwang Dong-hyuk as producers. The posted synopsis states that this U.S. version will be set in the same world as the Korean series, but will focus on how the deadly games are run in America.
