The Korean series Squid Game 2 on Netflix became extremely popular shortly after its release in December last year. As the new year began, the creators announced that the show would return for a third season in 2025. Since then, fans have been buzzing with all sorts of theories about what could happen next, and these ideas have been spreading rapidly online.
Recently, the character known as Player 456, who also plays the show’s lead role, dropped a hint related to these theories. The cast of Squid Game, including Lee Jung-Jae (who played Gi-hun), Lee Byung-hun (known as the Front Man), and producer Hwang Dong-hyuk, recently appeared on the show ‘First We Feast’. During their appearance, they took turns answering various questions. Lee Jung-Jae, portraying Player 456, read one of the questions aloud before responding.
The question read: “Squid Game Season 2 ends with a cliffhanger. Fans are already speculating about the next season. Tell us which theory is true: The island is a ship, Oh Il-nam’s son is Gi-hun, or the Front Man is an undercover cop.”
Frontman’s response
In response, the Front Man, Lee Byung-hun, said, “To be honest, no one was right.” When asked to eat a chicken wing, he refused, saying it wasn’t going to happen. The producer insisted that he needed to eat it, to which Byung-hun responded, “So that means I spoil the ending of Season 3? I mean, if that’s what you want, then I would choose to do that instead.”
Jung-Jae replied, “If it were me, I would just eat a spicy wing and end it. Can you take a second look at your contract?” Later, Byung-hun joked, “The ending of Season 3 is that the Front Man, standing in front of your character, will take off his mask and say, ‘I am your father.’ I’m sorry about that.”
Frontman And Oh Il-Nam’s Son Relation
In the first part, Seong Gi-hun turns down a glass of milk, telling the other players that he doesn’t like it. Oh Il-nam, an older player, mentions that his own son also doesn’t drink regular milk. Then, in the second part, Player No. 001, who is known as the Frontman, also refuses to drink milk and instead gives his bottle to another player.
Fans are starting to connect the dots and speculate that Gi-hun is actually Oh Il-nam’s son. In the second part of the story, Gi-hun finds himself in a tough situation, and what happens to him will only be revealed in the third instalment. Additionally, many other questions that viewers have will only be answered once the entire series concludes.
Fan’s Speculation
There’s a popular fan theory about Squid Game 2 suggesting that the character known as the Frontman is present when Oh Il-nam passes away in an apartment. In this scene, the Frontman closes Oh Il-nam’s eyes, which is a poignant moment. The Frontman also reflects on a time in the first season when Oh Il-nam chose not to attend a gathering with VIPs, saying he preferred to participate in the game rather than just watch it. On that day, the Frontman also feels a bit unwell, which adds to the emotional depth of the story.
