The highly anticipated second season of Squid Game is set to premiere on December 26. The new trailer promises even more sinister games and a gripping continuation of Gi-hun’s story, played by Lee Jung-jae. After the success of Season 1, the series has already secured a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series.
The trailer reveals a hardened Gi-hun (Player 456) returning to the deadly games with a single goal: to end the horrifying competition. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk shares that Season 2 explores Gi-hun’s quest to uncover the masterminds behind the survival game and why it exists. “It’s the core story of Season 2,” says Hwang.
A New Cast Joins The Game
Familiar faces such as Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun (Front Man), Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo return to the cast. Joining them are newcomers Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, and others, playing an ensemble of intriguing new characters. The new players include Myung-gi (Player 333), Hyun-ju (Player 120), and Yong-sik (Player 007), among others.
Three years after the events of Season 1, Gi-hun forgoes his plans to move abroad and dives back into the game. His decision stems from a need to confront the sinister system and its players, even at the cost of personal relationships.
