South Korean singer and actor T.O.P has been embroiled in controversy following his casting in Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2. The makers of the show also faced the burnt as the actor had previously been involved in a case related to drug consumption. Amid the conversation, the former BIGBANG member finally sat down for a revealing interview, offering a glimpse into his personal and professional struggles because of the controversies.
T.O.P reflected on his tumultuous exit from BIGBANG and acknowledged the emotional toll it took on him. “I caused great harm to both BIGBANG and my former company due to past mistakes,” he confessed to Sports Kyunghang. The singer also addressed the current state of his relationship with his former bandmates, revealing that while they’re no longer in touch, he continues to follow their work from afar.
Deep Sense Of Guilt
T.O.P also admitted that he maintained distance from his people as there was a deep deep sense of guilt within him. “If I were to return to the team that I caused harm to, the team and its members would also be labelled for the past mistakes I made, and I wouldn’t be able to face them. The suffering within me is so great that I’ve been saying for a long time that I want to leave,” he shared.
But is reunion on cards? T.O.P shared that people’s expectations about reuniting made it painful for him. “I wanted to clear things up, but there was no way for me to do that,” he said, and added that seeing BIGBANG together always felt like looking at a family he lost. “It’s a pain only those directly involved can understand,” he shared.
The K-pop group, which was formed in 2006, gave hits like Lies, Haru Haru and Bang Bang Bang. But their fate was met with several obstacles as one of the members Seungri exited the band in 2019. This was followed by T.O.P’s departure in 2023, making things more difficult for them.
