South Korean actor Song Young Kyu passed away on August 4 at the age of 55. He was reportedly found dead inside a car in a residential complex of Gyeonggi province. Known for his roles in the K-dramas ‘Reply 1988’, ‘Extreme Job’, and ‘Investigation Partners’, the news of his sudden death came after he was caught up in a DUI case a few months back.

Song Young Kyu worked in several popular K-dramas and movies in supporting roles. He appeared in hit shows like ‘Reply 1988’, ‘The Stars Are Shining’, ‘Hwarang: The Beginning’, ‘Come And Hug Me’, ‘Tale Of The Nine Tailed’, ‘Penthouse’, ‘Narco-Saints’, ‘Memories Of The Alhambra’, and many more.
In 2025, he was seen in ‘Love Scout’, ‘The Tale Of Lady Ok’, ‘The Haunted Palace’, ‘Oh My Ghost Clients’, ‘The Defects’, and ‘The Winning Try’.
About DUI Controversy:
The actor, on June 19, was caught driving under the influence for around five kilometres in Yongin City at night. His breathalyser test disclosed that a blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit for revocation in South Korea.
Due to the controversy, Song Young Kyu’s scenes from the shows ‘The Defects’ and ‘The Winning Try’ were edited. He was also dropped from the play ‘Shakespeare In Love’.
The reports by South Korean news outlets claimed that the actor was under stress due to the malicious articles and comments against him after the drunk driving controversy. The police are currently investigating what led to his sudden death. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of his demise, and his family is reportedly being questioned. As of now, the police have rejected signs of foul play.
