Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has received a death threat due to his recent controversial statements on Sanatana Dharma. The uproar began at the 15th anniversary event of Tamil actor Suriya’s Agaram Foundation, where Haasan publicly criticised the central government’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Calling it an “Ill outcome of Sanatana Dharma” that has crushed the dreams of many aspiring doctors. This sparked backlash and even a death threat from TV actor Ravichandran.
Haasan, who is a Rajya Sabha MP and founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), told the audience, “In this war, only education has the power to change the nation. It’s the only weapon that can break the chains of dictatorship and Sanatana. Do not take any other weapon in your hands. You can’t win with any other weapon. Because you will be defeated by majoritarianism; ignorant majoritarians will defeat you.”
His remarks sparked immediate political outrage. The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a boycott of all Kamal Haasan films, urging Hindus to avoid his work even on OTT platforms. BJP state secretary Amar Prasad Reddy compared Haasan to Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, alleging both have made statements aimed at “destroying Sanatana Dharma.”
Reddy shared a video message on social media, saying, “Earlier it was Udhayanidhi Stalin, and now it is Kamal Haasan who wants to destroy Sanatana Dharma. Let’s teach them a lesson.”

Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan also weighed in, accusing Haasan of insulting Hindu sentiments and religious beliefs.
However, the controversy took a darker turn when Ravichandran, a television actor, gave a YouTube interview branding Haasan a “naive politician” and threatening to “slit his throat” over the comments.
Kamal Haasan landed in controversy earlier this year over a controversial remark when he said that ‘Kannada is born out of Tamil’ at an event. This led to Thug Life being banned in Karnataka and sparked severe backlash.
