Sitaare Zameen Par Cleared! Censor Wanted Cuts In Aamir’s Splendid Family Film

The film was cleared by the CBFC on Monday evening without cuts.

Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan’s beautifully adapted version of the 2018 Spanish film, Javier Fesser’s Champions, found itself facing a hurdle just days from release on June 20.

Reliable sources close to the purposeful project, about a coach (Aamir Khan) training a bunch of autistic youngsters in basketball, informed that the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC), in all its wisdom, has asked for a few cuts. Two, to be precise.

Aamir, of course being Aamir, has refused to take the cuts.

“And rightly so!” says producer Sheetal Talwar, who saw Sitaare Zameen Par last week. “What cuts could they be asking for? It’s like asking for cuts in The Sound Of Music or Aamir’s earlier Taare Zameen Par (the spiritual prequel to Taare Zameen Par). These are inviolable films, not a frame should be touched.”

Adds producer Prerna Arora, “It is so strange. All kinds of vulgarity and double meaning can be seen and heard in recent comedies. But Aamir Khan, known to bring to the screen cinema that does civilization proud, is being asked to make cuts. I am a hundred percent sure Sitaare Zameen Par is as edifying as Taare Zameen Par.”

The film was cleared by the CBFC on Monday evening without cuts.
