Life of Siddhant Chaturvedi
Siddhant, born in 1993 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, moved to Mumbai at the age of five. Initially, he aimed to become a chartered accountant like his father, focusing on his studies after school. However, while attending Mithibai College, Siddhant discovered a passion for theater and began participating in plays.
After winning a popular fresh face contest, Siddhant decided to pursue acting full-time. He chose to forego his final CA exams and started auditioning for roles in Bollywood. His career kicked off with appearances in the web series “Life Sahi Hai” on YouTube in 2016 and the Amazon Prime show “Inside Edge” in 2017. While his portrayal of young bowler Prashant Kanaujia was well-received, Siddhant always harbored a desire to work in mainstream cinema.
How did his life change?
At the Inside Edge success party, Siddhant’s life took a turn when filmmaker Zoya Akhtar noticed him. Zoya invited him to audition for the film Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. He portrayed the rapper MC Sher in the movie and garnered praise from both audiences and critics for his outstanding performance. Siddhant’s stellar portrayal earned him accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, the Zee Cine Award, and the Screen Award for Best Male Debut for the 2019 release.
Following Gully Boy, Siddhant appeared in several films, including Bunty Aur Babli 2 in 2021, Gehraiyaan and Phone Bhoot in 2022, and his most recent film, the Netflix release Kho Gaye Hum Kahan in 2023. Notably, he was offered a significant role in the blockbuster Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva in 2022, a month before Gully Boy. However, he declined the offer, which led to him being ‘blacklisted’ in the casting circuit, as revealed by the actor in a recent interview.
Siddhant got ‘blacklisted’
Speaking to Lallantop, Siddhant recounted, “I informed the casting director that I couldn’t take up the role. He reacted, saying, ‘Are you crazy? The casting director informed me, “You have a contract with Dharma for three films.” I replied, “Who would notice me if Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt are all in the same film?” As a result, I was blacklisted from the casting circuit. People thought, “This guy is crazy; he declines offers after being selected.” Thankfully, Brahmastra’s production took longer than expected, allowing Gully Boy to come out first. I believe the character I was supposed to play in Brahmastra was eventually cut from the film. In hindsight, everything turned out for the best.”
