In a first in the Malayalam film industry, Shwetha Menon has scripted history by becoming the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). This announcement comes months after AMMA was dissolved following the resignation of the former president Mohanlal, along with the other members. The committee resigned due to the sexual harassment allegations against some of its members.
After her historic victory, Shwetha Menon said, “Thank you to all the family members. Media, thank you so much for coming. You were all telling till now that we need women at the head of A.M.M.A and now it has happened. Hope we will get the support.”
She added, “Those who resigned from AMMA will return. Those who left in disagreement should come back — if necessary, I will personally invite them.”
Meanwhile, Kukku Parameswaran has been elected as the General Secretary with 172 votes.
Shwetha Menon was earlier in the news after a case was registered against her based on a complaint alleging that she acted in films and advertisements containing obscene and vulgar content with the intent of earning money. The court later quashed the further proceeding.
