‘Masoom’ is one of the loved films in filmmaker Shekhar Kapur’s career and has gained a cult classic status over the years. Shekhar Kapur, at the press conference of the 55th International Film Festival of India in New Delhi, announced the sequel to ‘Masoom’ and will kickstart shooting for the project in 2025. Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah will also return to the sequel.

Manoj Bajpayee is the new addition to ‘Masoom 2’. Giving details about the sequel, Shekhar Kapur revealed, “I will start shooting for ‘Masoom 2′ in February-March 2025. The script is ready. In fact, I was flying in from Dubai yesterday and I left the script behind on my seat. I was very scared but it came back to me. The flight attendant wrote a note saying ”Masoom’ was such a nice film, this one too would be as nice”. A script that was lost comes back, it’s something predestined. It will be a different storyline but will have the same values.”

‘Masoom’ revolves around a man, who finds out that he has a son born out of infidelity. His family life gets disrupted when the child starts living with him, his wife, and his kids. Jugal Hansraj, Tanuja, Supriya Pathak, Saeed Jaffrey, Aradhana, and Urmila Matondkar are seen in pivotal roles.

The filmmaker also talked about the comparison of IFFI with the Cannes Film Festival. He said, “If we regard our films as Indian and listen to what our audiences have to say and not just listen to what the filmmakers have to say, then we will become much bigger than Cannes. It’s not that difficult to become bigger than Cannes. We must try and one day, we will become bigger than Cannes.”

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
