The Sheena Bora murder trial will start again on March 10 after a four-month break because the judge was transferred. Indrani Mukerjea, the main person accused, is out on bail. So far, more than 90 of the 237 witnesses have been questioned.
The last important hearing in the case, where Sheena Bora’s mother, Indrani Mukerjea, is the main accused, took place on October 23 last year before Judge S P Naik Nimbalkar was transferred.
Indrani Mukherjea, a former media executive, was arrested in 2015 for the murder of her daughter, Sheena. The case gained a lot of media coverage because of its dramatic twists and the involvement of famous people. The trial had to pause for a while because the special judge handling the case was transferred. But now, the trial is set to continue with daily hearings starting March 10.
Sheena Bora (24) was strangled to death in a car by her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyamvar Rai (who later became a witness for the police), and Indrani’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012. They burned her body and left it in a forest in Raigad.
Indrani’s ex-husband, Peter Mukerjea, is also accused in the case.
The murder was revealed in 2015 after the driver Shyamvar Rai admitted to it when he was arrested in another case.
