New Delhi: Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor’s first film in four years, is performing poorly at the box office. On its first day of release, July 22, the film grossed around Rs 10.25 crore. According to early estimates, it earned another 10 crore on Day 2, which isn’t budget of Rs 150 crore. On Day 2, Shamshera actually earned less than his wife Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The latest from the YRF stable appears to have bombed at the box office right from the start. Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor star in the Karan Malhotra-directed historical drama.
Shamshera began its journey on Day 1 with a Rs 10.25 crore opening. The opening is significantly lower than what the industry anticipated. The film failed to grow at the box office on its second day as well. Early estimates place the collections between Rs 9.8 and Rs 10.60 crore. This brings the two-day total of YRF production to Rs 20.60 crore. Saturdays are usually good for movies, but not for Shamshera, which had the highest screen count in the post-pandemic era. It remains to be seen whether or not collections will increase on Sunday.
Sharing the first day collection of the film on Day 1, film critics and trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Saturday wrote, “#Shamshera sends shock waves within the industry, as Day 1 ends on an underwhelming note… National chains poor, single screens below expectations… All eyes on Day 2 and 3 biz… Fri ₹ 10.25 cr. #India biz.
