Fans were eagerly counting down to see Shah Rukh Khan return to the big screen in King, his first film since Dunki(2023) and his much anticipated on screen debut with daughter Suhana Khan. The action thriller, directed by Siddharth Anand, began shooting in June in Mumbai and was initially locked for an October 2026 release.
However, according to Mid-Day reports, that timeline has now been thrown into doubt after Khan suffered a shoulder injury while filming an intense action sequence. Mid-Day sources revealed that the injury forced the team to halt production so the superstar could undergo treatment and take several weeks off for recovery.
An insider reveals, “King’s team has hit pause on the shoot. Shah Rukh needs to rest it out for weeks before he can face the camera again. It is an action-heavy film, so the team doesn’t want to take a chance with his health.”
Insiders told Mid-Day the makers are unwilling to resume until Khan is fully fit, both for safety reasons and to maintain the physical demands of the role. “The team is now chalking out the plan for the next schedule. Earlier, King was being pegged as a Gandhi Jayanti 2026 offering. That is not possible now; it may get pushed by months to have an early 2027 release,” the source added.

‘King’ will reportedly feature an ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhay Verma, Raghav Juyal, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. The movie has not been announced yet, but has been in the news ever since Shah Rukh Khan dropped the hint.
