Over three decades after Shah Rukh Khan made his iconic Bollywood debut with Deewana (1992), the film is all set to return to the big screen and this time with a sequel. In an exclusive report of News18, veteran filmmaker and Dharmendra’s first cousin Guddu Dhanoa confirmed that Deewana 2 is officially in the works.
“Yes, Deewana 2 is very much happening. We’re currently in the scripting stage” Dhanoa revealed. However, the cast for the sequel remains under wraps he further added “There’s still some time before the film goes on floors as my web series will release before that.”
Deewana is a 1992 romantic action drama film directed by Raj Kanwar and written by Sagar Sarhadi. It stars Rishi Kapoor, Divya Bharti, and Shah Rukh Khan in his debut. The film revolves around a young woman named Kajal (Divya Bharti). After her husband Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) goes missing, she faces many struggles as a widow. Later, Raja (Shah Rukh Khan), who is deeply in love with her, enters her life and eventually wins her heart. This was a massive hit and played a key role in launching Khan’s Bollywood career.
Dhanoa also revealed that he’s also working on another sequel to one of his past hits “My film Bichhoo earned a lot of love. We’re extremely keen on making Bichhoo 2 and the script for the same is also in the works.”
Apart from working on sequels, Dhanoa is also marking his comeback to Hindi cinema after 18 years with Romeo S3 which is set to release on May 16. The film stars Thakur Anoop Singh in the lead as a cop, alongside Palak Tiwari.
On work front, after the blockbuster success of Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki in 2023, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to return to the big screen with King, an action thriller directed by Siddharth Anand. The film also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan, Abhay Verma, Arshad Warsi, and Jaideep Ahlawat. The film is reportedly to hit the big screen in between October and December 2026.
