Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Jawan” is making waves at the overseas box office, surpassing the pre-sales records set by “Pathaan.” The movie’s pre-sales began a few weeks ago and have now crossed a million dollars for its first day, five days before its release.
As of Friday night, the overseas pre-sales for “Jawan” have reached a remarkable USD 2 million for the weekend, with nearly half of that for Thursday.
“Jawan” is outselling “Pathaan” in most regions before its release, except for Australia and the UAE. In Australia, “Pathaan” had the advantage of a national holiday release date, so “Jawan” wasn’t expected to match it. Nonetheless, “Jawan” is performing better than other recent releases in Australia, with “Brahmastra” being less than half of its pre-sales.
In the UAE, “Jawan” has gained momentum in the last two days and is likely to catch up with or even surpass “Pathaan” upon release.
North America is contributing significantly, with the first-day sales reaching nearly USD 450K by Friday night, and the overall weekend sales almost double that amount. In the US, “Jawan” is leading “Pathaan” by nearly 60 percent at the same stage, while Canada’s advance sales are 10 percent ahead of “Pathaan.” “Pathaan” previously held the highest pre-sales record for Bollywood films in both markets, but “Jawan” has now exceeded it.
Moving to the Middle East, “Jawan” has recorded over USD 225K in pre-sales for the first day. The UAE, the largest market in the region, has sold nearly 9K tickets worth USD 125K, with Saudi Arabia close behind with 4.5K tickets worth USD 70K. Although the UAE currently lags behind “Pathaan,” it has gained momentum in recent days and may catch up upon release. In Saudi Arabia, “Jawan” is ahead of “Pathaan” and is likely to set new opening records in this emerging market.
The United Kingdom has reported sales exceeding GBP 125K for the first day, with 11.5K tickets sold, once again surpassing “Pathaan” at the same stage. In Germany, pre-sales are around EUR 70K, and Australia has reached AUD 90K.
These pre-sales numbers indicate a strong opening for “Jawan.” “Pathaan” holds the overseas opening records for Bollywood films, with USD 4.70 million on the first day, USD 19 million on the first weekend, and USD 26.40 million over the five-day extended weekend. “Jawan” is poised to break the first-day record, potentially exceeding USD 5 million. If the audience reception is favorable, it could surpass USD 20 million over its four-day extended weekend. More clarity on this will emerge in the coming days, with final pre-sales figures expected by Wednesday night.
