Mumbai Police has arrested Mohammad Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Chhattisgarh, for allegedly issuing a death threat to Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The accused was apprehended in Raipur after failing to appear before the Mumbai Police for questioning. He will now face court proceedings.
Raipur SSP Santosh Singh shared details about the arrest with ANI. “A team of Bandra police from Mumbai reached Pandri police station. They have arrested Faizan Khan in the case of threatening actor Shah Rukh Khan… He was given a notice a few days ago. After the investigation, he was found guilty and arrested. He is being taken to Mumbai on transit remand…A case of assault is already registered against him,” he informed.
According to reports, Faizan made a threat call to the 59-year-old actor on November 5, demanding ₹50 Lakh. However, when questioned by local police in Ranchi, Faizan claimed that his mobile phone, which was used to make the threatening call, was stolen. Faizan also informed police that he had filed a police case on November 2 regarding the stolen phone.
Nevertheless, a case against him was registered by the police under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as the threat call was made from a phone number registered in his name.
What’s the controversy?
As informed by the local police, Mumbai’s Bandra Police Station received a call from Faizan’s phone. The Person on the other side said, “Shah Rukh Mannat, Bandstand wala hai na. Usne agar mere ko 50 lakh nahi diye toh main usko maar daalunga”. When the police inquired about the person’s identity, he replied, “Wo matter nahi karta. Likhna hai toh mera naam Hindustani likho,” and disconnected the call abruptly.
This is not the first time that Shah Rukh has faced death threats. He got into a similar situation in 2023 post the release of his films Pathaan and Jawan. Thereafter, the actor was provided additional security, including Y+ protection.
