Satish Shah, the veteran Bollywood actor, passed away on October 25, 2025, due to kidney failure. His manager, Ramesh, confirmed that Shah, who had recently undergone a kidney transplant, was not keeping well. “He passed away around 2.00 – 02.30 pm today,” Ramesh said. The family is still planning the funeral.
His demise has left the entire film fraternity in shock, given his decades long contribution to cinema and television.
Celebrities from Bollywood mourned his loss. Johny Lever, a long time collaborator, shared an emotional note on Instagram: “Feeling extremely sad to share that we’ve lost a great artist & my dearest friend of over 40 years. It’s hard to believe—I had spoken to him just two days ago. Satish Bhai, you will truly be missed. Your immense contribution to film and television will never be forgotten. @sats.workplace.”

Filmmaker Farah Khan shared a heartfelt Instagram story, posting a picture of Satish Shah and writing, “Rest in peace dearest Satish. You were a joy to know n work with. Will miss u sending me memes n jokes everyday.”

Ashoke Pandit posted a video remembering Shah, on Instagram. He wrote, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has expired few hours ago due to kidney failure . He was rushed to Hinduja hospital where he breathed his last . A great loss to our industry . Om Shanti.” He also shared Satish’s address in the post.
Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed sadness over losing someone who brought so much happiness to people and talked about Shah’s famous roles. He wrote on X, “Why are the people who gave us joy going away? Having just said good bye to Piyush Pandey, comes the news of the passing of Satish Shah who was brilliant in Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and so many many more.”

Ameesha Patel expressed sadness on Instagram stories, recalling working with Shah in her debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, praising him as a fine actor and an even finer human being. She wrote, “Saddened to hear this heartbreaking news! Had the privilege to work with him in my debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Fine actor but finer human being! Om Shanti.”

Karan Johar also expressed condolences on Instagram story simply stated: “Om Shanti.”

Who was Satish Shah?
Born Satish Ravilal Shah in 1950 or 1951 in Mandvi, Gujarat, he was a graduate of Xavier’s College and later attended the Film and Television Institute of India. Shah was renowned for his versatility and comic timing, appearing in over 250 films and numerous television shows.
Some of his most memorable work includes Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004), Main Hoon Na (2004), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Fanaa (2006), and Om Shanti Om (2007). On television, he was celebrated for playing 55 different characters in 55 episodes of Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and the iconic Indravadhan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. He also co-judged Comedy Circus in 2008 and served as a member of the Film and Television Institute of India society in 2015.
