Asia Cup 2025: When Sanju Samson compared his journey to Mohanlal; says ‘Can do villain and joker role for my country’

While speaking to Sanjay Manjrekar on Sony Sports Network, Sanju revealed that he drew inspiration for his journey from Mohanlal. He shared, “See, there’s our actor, Mohanlal, who got a big award from the Indian government. He has been an actor for 20 years. I have been playing for India for 10 years. So, I can’t come in and say I want to do the ‘hero’ role every time. I can do the villain role, and I also do the Joker role for my country.”

Meanwhile, after winning the match, Sanju talked about the pressure on Team India. He told ESPN, ” I really enjoyed the pressure actually. I have not played many India-Pakistan games, but today, I think the pressure was all over there. Three wickets down in the powerplay, so I just had to use my experience, calm the nerves down, and just watch the ball and react. That’s what I did, and it came off nicely. I think I had a really good partnership with Tilak, and really enjoyed playing the game today.”

India had a rocky start as three batters, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, were dismissed in quick succession. Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson stabilised India’s innings and tried to form a partnership. Sanju Samson was dismissed at the score of 24 by Abrar Ahmed. Shivam Dube then formed a partnership while Tilak Varma scored a magnificent half-century in the high-pressure situation. The match went on to become even more tense when 24 runs were left to be scored in 14 balls, and both teams maintained a tight grip over the match.

The situation turned even more serious when only 11 balls were left and 16 runs were to be scored. But Shivam Dube released the pressure with a six, and the pressure was eased a bit. But soon Dube was also dismissed, and Rinku Singh came in to bat. It was Tilak Varma’s six and Rinku Singh afterwards that sealed the match for India.
