New Delhi: Martin Amis, a British novelist, has passed away. He was 73. The novelist infused his works and way of life with a rock ‘n’ roll sensibility. His agent, Andrew Wylie, confirmed his death on Saturday from esophageal cancer, which occurred on Friday at his Florida residence.

Amis was the son of Kingsley Amis, a different British author. At the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, Jonathan Glazer’s adaptation of Martin Amis’ 2014 book “The Zone of Interest” had its world premiere. Some of the festival’s greatest reviews were given to the movie.

Amis wrote about the Holocaust and Josef Stalin’s rule in Russia in his novels “Time’s Arrow” and “House of Meetings.” They were examples of his exploration of the dark psyche.

Martin Amis’ best-known writings include “Money,” a parody on London materialism, “The Information,” and “London Fields,” as well as his 2000 memoir, “Experience.”

“He was the king — a stylist extraordinaire, super cool, a brilliantly witty, erudite and fearless writer and a truly wonderful man,” said Michal Shavit, his editor in England.

“We are devastated at the death of our author and friend, Martin Amis,” Amis’ publisher, Penguin, tweeted. “He leaves a towering legacy and an indelible mark on the British cultural landscape, and will be missed enormously.”
