Rihanna is finally making her long awaited return to music. After a three year hiatus from releasing tracks, she has announced her latest song ‘Friend of Mine’, featured in the upcoming Smurfs movie. The track, includes Afro beats influenced dance track, which can be previewed in a new teaser released on Wednesday.
The teaser begins with a shot of Rihanna in the studio, wearing a blue jacket and blue beads in her hair. Grooving as she records the song, singing, “You’re looking like a friend of mine.” It then shows a preview of the film’s storyline, with the residents of Smurf Village traveling to the real world to save Papa Smurf (Goodman) after he’s kidnapped by evil wizard Gargamel (J. P. Karliak). The track marks her first new release since Lift Me Up, from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack in 2022.
‘Friend of Mine’ is set to release on May 16, while the film will hit theaters on July 18.

Apart from the muscial track, Rihanna is also serving as a producer and stars alongside a voice cast that includes John Goodman, James Corden, Nick Offerman, and Sandra Oh.
Rihanna earlier made headlines earlier this month when she made her appearance with a baby bump on Met Gala 2025. Rihanna and partner A$AP Rocky welcomed their first son, RZA, in May 2022, followed by their second, Riot Rose, in August 2023.
