Retro which is directed by Karthik Subbaraj and featuring Suriya opened in theaters to much hype and anticipation. From the trendy trailer to Suriya’s bright and experiential wardrobe, fans were eagerly awaiting their favourite hero’s return to the big screen. The anticipation for the film had been high and professionals in the industry had projected it as a future blockbuster.
Box Office Collection Day 3
As per reports by the Sacnilk, after three days of release, Retro’s overall domestic box office collection is Rs. 33.49 crore. Although the figures are not terrible but they are still below expectations given the enormous pre-release publicity the movie had. With Sunday and the weekdays that follow, it is yet to be known if the movie can recover and steady its earnings.
About The Movie Retro
Retro focuses on a former gangster trying to live a peaceful life after getting married but things changes but his past gets in the way. It was rumoured that Retro was first offered to Thalapathy Vijay. But director Karthik Subbaraj clarified that the movie was not written for Vijay but for superstar Rajinikanth. In an interview, he revealed, “This story was not written for Thalapathy Vijay sir, as being speculated. I wrote this script keeping in mind Thalaivar. Initially, it was more in the action zone to suit Thalaivar’s image. After narrating it to Suriya sir, it was changed to a love story. Even Suriya sir asked me if I narrated the script to Rajinikanth sir.”
On the work front, Suriya was last seen in the movie ‘Kanguva’ but it did not work well at the box office. The movie also starred Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natty Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Ravi Raghavendra and Karunas.
