The legendary Rekha, who has not been seen on screen since 2014 (in Indra Kumar’s execrable ‘Super Nani’), is now looking at a worthy project to make a comeback eleven years after her last full-fledged role (she did two cameos since then).
A source, very close to the actress, reveals, “Rekha is perceived as unapproachable by those producers and directors who want to sign her. To some extent, it is true. It is not that she is forgotten. But those interested in signing her don’t know how to contact her except through her secretary and companion Farzana, a route they are reluctant to take.”
When I mentioned this to Rekha, she replied, “Those who want to reach me know how to. I am not the reclusive diva I am made out to be. It’s not as if I haven’t been getting offers. Nothing interesting enough is coming way.”
Apparently, Rekha is all set to seriously return to the big screen. She has been personally calling up director-friends and offering her time for projects she thinks she may like being part of.
Not many know, Rekha was the first choice for Manisha Koirala’s role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. Regrettably, that didn’t work out. However, Bhansali is one of the directors on Rekha’s wishlist. And as anyone who knows her even remotely (not many do) would tell you, what Rekha wants, Rekha gets.
