Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda is set to reunite with director Sam Hargrave for an action-packed thriller titled Matchbox. The film, currently being shot in Budapest, also stars Hollywood superstar John Cena and is based on Mattel’s iconic die-cast matchbox toy vehicle line.
A Thrilling Collaboration With Sam Hargrave
This collaboration marks Randeep Hooda’s second project with director Sam Hargrave, following their successful partnership on Netflix’s Extraction (2020), where Hooda’s performance as Saju was highly appreciated. Hooda is excited to work with Hargrave once again, calling the director a “master of high-octane storytelling and action.”
Matchbox: A High-Stakes, Live-Action Film
Matchbox revolves around a group of childhood friends who must come together to prevent a global disaster while rediscovering their bond. The live-action thriller also stars Teyonah Parris, Jessica Biel, and Sam Richardson. Inspired by the Matchbox toy cars, the film offers a unique premise grounded in the iconic toy brand’s history.
The Matchbox brand was created in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell. His daughter was only allowed to take a toy to school if it was small enough to fit inside a matchbox. This led to the creation of the Matchbox cars, which have become a global sensation, with two cars sold every second around the world.

Filming is currently taking place in Budapest, where Randeep Hooda joins the talented cast. The movie is being produced by Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, along with Don Granger and Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films. The screenplay is written by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper.
Apart from Matchbox, Randeep Hooda has a busy year ahead. He is working on the action film Jaat with director Gopichand Malineni, alongside veteran actor Sunny Deol. The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory. Additionally, Hooda will be seen in Arjun Ustara, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.
