‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ tells the story of the epic Ramayana in 135 minutes. The movie mostly highlights the story of Ramayana after Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman are sent into exile. The plot includes Goddess Sita’s kidnapping by Ravana, Lord Ram’s meeting with Hanuman, and war with Ravana.
The movie is directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki. Its soulful music is composed by Vanraj Bhatia. The movie was first screened at the 24th International Film Festival of India in 1993 and later at Vancouver International Film Festival. However, it was only released on the big screens in 1997. ‘Ramayana The Legend Of Prince Rama’ gained popularity after it aired on television channels for kids and later was sold on DVD as well.

Arun Govil, who was already popular for his portrayal of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s television show ‘Ramayan’, lent his voice to Lord Ram again in the animated movie. Namrata Sawhney, Shakti Singh, and Dilip Sinha gave voice to Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman respectively. Meanwhile, Bollywood star Shatrughan Sinha was the narrator in the film.
The movie was also dubbed in English and had some prominent names as the voice cast. Meanwhile, there were two English versions of the film as well. Nikhil Kapoor, Rael Padamsee, Uday Mathan, Mishal Varma and Noel Godin were Lord Ram, Sita, Ravan, Lakshman and Hanuman respectively.
The movie was released in the US as ‘The Prince of Light: The Legend of Ramayana’ and had Bryan Cranston as the voice for Lord Ram. For the unversed, Bryan Cranston is popular for his role in the Netflix series ‘Breaking Bad’.
