Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar also features Rakesh Bedi in the role of a shrewd politician, while Sara Arjun plays his daughter in the film. Recently, a video from a public event has gone viral, sparking controversy online.
In the clip, Rakesh is seen hugging Sara on stage. However, the moment was misinterpreted by some social media users, who claimed that he kissed her on the shoulder. Following the backlash, Rakesh Bedi has now addressed the issue.
What did Rakesh Bedi say?
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Rakesh clarified the situation, saying,
“Sara is less than half my age and plays my daughter in the film. Whenever she meets me, she hugs me the way daughters hug their fathers. We share a very warm bond, and that connection reflects on screen as well.”
‘Problem lies in viewer’s perspective’, says Dhurandhar actor
Rakesh further explained that their interaction at the event was no different from how they usually greet each other. “There was nothing unusual. But if someone chooses to see something else, that’s not in my control. Sometimes, the problem lies in the eye of the beholder,” he added.
Sara Arjun’s parents were present
Addressing the seriousness of the allegations, Rakesh pointed out that Sara’s parents were present during the event. “Why would I behave inappropriately on a public stage, especially when her parents were right there? Such claims are absurd. Some people just want to create unnecessary controversy on social media,” he said.
Fans come out in support
While the video attracted trolling from a section of social media, many fans stood by Rakesh. Sharing a recent personal experience, he said, “I’m not trying to praise myself, but recently, a woman approached me during a dinner outing. Her son was physically and mentally challenged and was a big fan of my work. Moments like these remind me of the love and respect people have for me.”
