Recently, Karan Johar created a flutter when, uncharacteristically, he lashed out against podcasts that disrespect cinema’s denizens. Now, producer Prerna Arora, speaking exclusively to us, agrees with Karan. “Karan Johar is absolutely right. Some of these podcasts make me squirm in embarrassment. The tone and language used to describe the people who made our film industry what it is….I can’t believe people are allowed to speak like this about anyone publicly, let alone the legends.”
Prerna feels the vilification is cheap clickbait. “See, who would invite these unknown people for podcasts to discuss their own achievements. They don’t have any! So the idea is to bring these losers on to talk about the winners. Aap ek baar Amitabh Bachchan ya Shah Rukh Khan ka naam le lo, people will listen.”
According to Prerna Arora, these malicious podcasts must stop. “These legends are not with us anymore. They can’t defend themselves. Don’t disrespect them. When you talk about Parveen Babi’s mental health or Rajesh Khanna’s moods, you are going into forbidden territory. Let them be. Their iconic status is non-negotiable. Find some other way to get noticed.”
