New Delhi: Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 ensembles a star-studded cast featuring Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayamravi, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Rai. The film is based on Kalki’s novel series of the same name. The film grossed more over Rs. 200 crore in its first three days worldwide, and the Monday collections are a surprise given the film’s incredible occupancy. Aside from weekdays, weekend 2 bookings have begun in full force, and the film is on its way to a long, uninterrupted run in the domestic mark.
In Hindi belt, the film grossed approximately Rs. 7.5 crore nett in its first weekend, which is a respectable figure for a dubbed picture. The film dropped by 35% on its first Monday, to Rs. 1.25 crore nett, indicating a sustained run at low levels.
The pan-India film, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 historical fiction novel Ponniyin Selvan, has now surpassed Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast to become the year’s second best grossing Tamil film, after only Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil starring action-packed Vikram.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his Twitter account on the evening of Monday, October 3, and wrote, “#PS1 surpasses #Beast in #Kerala to become 2022 ‘s 2nd Highest Kollywood movie behind #Vikram”.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 follows Vandhiyathevan, the Vaanar Clan’s prince, on his trip. He is a soldier in the Crown Prince’s army, having lost his ancestry, territory, and kingdom. Karthi plays Vandhiyathevan and is a good fit for the flirtatious, witty, and feisty character. Vikram plays Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan, an eccentric and wounded warrior who is attempting to forget his tragedy.
The second part of the film is scheduled to hit theatres in 2023.
