The sudden demise of veteran actor and comedian Satish Shah on October 25 has left the entertainment industry in deep shock. The 74 year old actor, best known for his iconic comic timing and beloved role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, passed away due to kidney failure.
Celebrities like Farah Khan, Karan Johar, and Johny Lever took to social media to express their grief. Joining them, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also penned a heartfelt note on X, mourning the actor’s passing.
He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment. His effortless humour and iconic performances brought laughter into countless lives. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

According to P.D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre in Mumbai, Satish Shah was found unresponsive at his residence and could not be revived despite the best efforts of the medical team.
Who was Satish Shah?
Born Satish Ravilal Shah in 1950 or 1951 in Mandvi, Gujarat, he was a graduate of Xavier’s College and later attended the Film and Television Institute of India. Shah was renowned for his versatility and comic timing, appearing in over 250 films and numerous television shows.
Some of his most memorable work includes Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004), Main Hoon Na (2004), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Fanaa (2006), and Om Shanti Om (2007). On television, he was celebrated for playing 55 different characters in 55 episodes of Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and the iconic Indravadhan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. He also co-judged Comedy Circus in 2008 and served as a member of the Film and Television Institute of India society in 2015.
