Payal Kapadia’s directorial ‘All We Imagine As Light’ has taken Indian cinema to new heights with its critical reception and international accolades. The movie has achieved another milestone after it was included in former US President Barack Obama’s list of his favourite movies of 2024. Fans are delighted to see an Indian movie in the list and praised the excellence of Payal Kapadia.
Conclave, The Piano Lesson, The Promised Land, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Dune: Part Two, Anora, Dìdi, Sugarcane, and A Complete Unknown are also included in the list. Sharing the list, Barack Obama wrote on Instagram, “Here are a few movies I’d recommend checking out this year.”
One netizen commented, “All we imagine as light is probably the first Indian film which got mentioned in this list.” Another one wrote, “Mollywood supremacy.”

‘All We Imagine AS Light’ has also received two nods at the Golden Globes 2025. The movie got nominations in the Best Motion Picture – (Non-English Language) category. Meanwhile, the filmmaker also received a nod in the Best Direction (Motion Picture) and this makes her first Indian director to get nominated at the Golden Globes. The movie also won Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
