Maharashtra Cyber Police Confirms Deepfake
In an official note, the Maharashtra Cyber Police stated that a criminal case had been registered based on the complaint filed by Payal Dhare. The FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
The statement further clarified that the video was examined using advanced forensic tools available with the Maharashtra State Cyber Department. The analysis confirmed that the clip had been tampered with and was a deepfake created using artificial intelligence technology.
