Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt Charged With Blasphemy After Launching Perfume Brand; Here’s Why

Rajab Butt is a popular Pakistani YouTuber and enjoys a huge fan following on social media.

Popular Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt has found himself in the middle of a controversy after he launched his perfume brand. The controversy was caused as he named his perfume brand ‘295’, which was allegedly a reference to Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws. For the unversed, Pakistan’s blasphemy laws reportedly criminalise acts that are deemed insulting to Islam or Prophet Muhammad.

The YouTuber received massive backlash after he launched his perfume brand ‘295’. According to ETimes, a case was filed after his video promoting the fragrance went viral and Islamist political party in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) also criticised him.

The official complaint was filed against him by TLP leader Haider Ali Shah Gillani. According to AFP, Gillani said, “There are numerous sections in the penal code, but why did he choose blasphemy-related sections to name a perfume?”

After the controversy, Butt released an apology video and said, “I apologise for the words I uttered during the launch of the perfume.” He also revealed that he will discontinue the brand. Meanwhile, the YouTuber has been charged under both blasphemy and cybercrime laws and can face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Rajab Butt was earlier involved into controversy after he pleaded guilty to illegally owning a lion cub in January 2025. He shared that he had received the lion cub as a wedding gift.
