Mahira Khan And Fawad Khan’s film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ was scheduled to release on October 2. However, the release has been stalled amid the backlash from political parties and audience. Before the issue could die down, Mahira Khan found herself at the center of another controversy, with both Indian and Pakistani fans uniting in their criticism.
During the recently held Hum Awards, Mahira gave a high-octane performance on the title track of her popular show Humsafar. Though the actor gracefully danced to the beats, what offended many was the choice of the song ‘Wo Humsafar Tha’. Netizens pointed out how it’s an iconic ghazal penned by Naseer Turabi in the 1970s to mourn the split of Dhaka and Pakistan. A dance performance, with relatively happy expressions and moves, led to objections and questions from all corners. Many fan pages and Pakistan Publishers took to their Instagram handle to call the dance performance a disgrace to the poem and a mockery of national loss.

Taking to the comment section, people wrote, “She ruined the legacy of this song.” Others commented, “Not at all appropriate for an award show” , “It’s a sad song. Why is she smiling” , “Wrong song selection, wrong choreography, wrong dancer, wrong expressions. Literally everything is wrong about this performance.,” “Shayad ab ye song kabhi na sunn pau main.”
A lot of fans also came in defense of the actor and shared how it’s a harmless performance on her OST. One person commented, “She is performing on her song. The expressions could be off but there is no problem in dancing on this track. It has been part of her show after all.” Another wrote, “She isn’t dancing to the poem that was written in the 70s. She’s dancing to the OST of her drama. If you have a problem, take it up with the people who used this poem and turned it into an OST. Mahira did not do that.”
The drama Humsafar featured Mahira alongside Fawad Khan and made the two global sensations over the night. Their chemistry, the storyline, the music and Mahira’s elegant dressing became a rage among people. Till date, the drama is considered to be a classic and most recommended show.
