What upset fans the most was that Michelle Trachtenberg passed away less than a week ago, but she was still left out of the Oscars memorial tribute.
Michelle Trachtenberg, star of Gossip Girl, wasn’t the only one left out during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment at the 97th Oscars. Movie stars Tony Todd, Shannen Doherty, and Olivia Hussey were also not included in the tribute, even though many others were honored at the 2025 Oscars.
“Michelle Trachtenberg deserved her flowers!!! #Oscars that’s so sad,” an X user expressed online. Angry fans shared their frustration on the platform after the Gossip Girl star was not mentioned at the Oscars, even though her sudden death just days ago made tragic headlines. The Ice Princess and Buffy actress was found dead on Wednesday at the age of 39.

Fans React to Missing Tributes for Famous Actors at the Oscars
“NO michelle trachtenberg??? NO Shannen Doherty ??? NO Tony Todd???? I’m SICK #Oscars2025,” tweeted a disgruntled netizen on X, formerly Twitter.
“Oh f**k yall for not including Michelle Trachtenberg. so disrespectful #Oscars,” wrote another upset fan.
It was also pointed out that Tony Todd was not included in the memorial montage at this year’s BAFTAs. “Livid doesn’t cover it. rest in peace, king 🫶🏻 #oscars,” shared a third user.
Tony Todd’s exclusion especially upset horror fans, who felt it was a snub to the genre. “Somehow, I’m really not surprised. Still, it shows how this awards ceremony continues to disrespect horror. Tony deserved to have his name up there with all the others. Some people will say “who cares about the Oscars?”, but I would say the recognition was well earned over a great career,” read a Reddit post on Sunday.
The Candyman star, Tony Todd, who had over 100 film and TV roles and worked in many different genres over the years, was found dead at his home in late November 2024. He was 69.
British actress Olivia Hussey, known for Romeo and Juliet, passed away in December 2024 at the age of 73 after fighting breast cancer.

Shannen Doherty, who was 53, also lost her battle with breast cancer in July 2024. The Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed star had been living with cancer since 2015.
