Oscars 2025: Wicked, Emilia Perez Nominated In Most Categories, Guneet Monga’s ‘Anuja’ Also Gets A Nod

The 97th edition of the prestigious will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2. Conan O'Brien will be hosting the event this time.

The much-awaited nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were unveiled earlier today, January 23. In a live ceremony from the prestigious Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, hosts Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott revealed the contenders in all 24 categories. The announcement, which began at 7 pm IST, marked the official kick-off of the Oscar season.

Spanish musical crime film Emilia Perez got nominated in most categories including Best Cinematography, Best Sound. Selena Gomez also earned two nominations for the film in Best Supporting Actress and Original Song category. In total, the film bagged 13 nominations, which is by far, one of the highest for any film.

Universal’s box office blockbuster Wicked also secured nominations in several categories including Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande. The film also earned recognition in technical categories such as Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects.

India At Oscars

Guneet Monga’s film Anuja has secured a nominations in the Best Live Action Short Film Category. It managed to earn the recognition by competing with 180 films, out of which only five made it to final nominations. Anuja is nominated alongside Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent.

This is the third time that Guneet has been nominated for the Oscars. Her earlier projects, The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence, also won the trophy earlier.
