The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has announced a delay in the announcement of the 97th annual Oscar nominations, citing the ongoing wildfires in Southern California that have been affecting Los Angeles. The delay also comes with an extension of the voting nominations window.
On January 8, Academy CEO Bill Kramer informed members about the decision to extend the voting window for the Oscar nominations by two days.
Bill Kramer wrote, “We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California. So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you. Given the fire situation, we want to share some updates regarding an extension to the Oscars nominations voting window…Nominations voting for the 97th Oscars opened this morning at 9 am PT. We will be extending the voting window by two days to give members more time to cast their ballots. Voting will now close on Tuesday, January 14 at 5 pm PT.”

Nominations Announcement Rescheduled
As a result of the delay in the voting process, the much-anticipated Oscar nominations announcement, originally scheduled for Friday, January 17, has been pushed back to Sunday, January 19. Bill Kramer expressed his deepest condolences to those affected by the devastating fires and assured members that the decision was made to give voters more time to cast their ballots.
The wildfires, which have been spreading across the Los Angeles area since January 8, have caused widespread devastation, particularly in the Hollywood Hills. As of the latest update, five people have lost their lives, and over 10,000 people have been displaced due to the fires.
Conan O’Brien To Host 97th Oscars
In other Oscars-related news, comedian Conan O’Brien will host the 97th Oscars for the first time. The ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 2, 2025. The prestigious event will be aired live on ABC, with the red carpet show starting at 6:30 pm ET/3:30 pm PT.
