Oscars 2024: At the 96th Academy Awards, Robert Downey Jr on Monday won the first ever Oscar for best the supporting Actor for his magnificent performance in Oppenheimer. In Christopher Nolan’s film, he played a significant role of Lewis Strauss, J Robert Oppenheimer’s nemesis. He marched to the stage and accepted his award.

Notably, this is the first ever Oscar win for the Robert Downey Jr. however, in 1993, Robert was previously nominated for the best actor for his performance in Chaplin as well as he was again nominated in 2009, for his role in Tropic Thunder.

Robert Downey Jr dedicated this award to his wife – Susan Downey and her emotionally thanked her. The actor also thanked his ‘terrible childhood’ after being honoured by the one of the most prestigious award of entertainment industry.

Addressing the audience, Robert Downey Jr took centre stage and said that he would like to thank his terrible childhood along with the Academy.
He compared his wife Susan with a ‘veterinarian’ and stated that she found him like a snarling pet, rescued him and she loved him back to life. The actor said that because of his wife he is present at this stage.
Robert Downey Jr was the preferred nominee for the Best Supporting Actor category throughout this awards season. He not only clinched the Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer but also secured victories at the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards for the same performance. Similarly, his co-star Cillian Murphy has also been making waves in the awards season.
