Odia singer Humane Sagar passes away at 36; CM Mohan Charan Majhi, BJD chief Naveen Patnaik offer condolences

Popular Odia singer Humane Sagar passed away on Monday at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after battling multiple health complications.

Popular Odia singer Humane Sagar passed away on Monday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, according to local reports. He was in his mid thirties.

Sagar had been admitted to AIIMS on 14 November after being diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, Acute on Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF), multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and several other complications. Reports also indicated that he was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy with severe LV systolic dysfunction, refractory shock, severe respiratory failure, anuric acute kidney injury, encephalopathy, hepatopathy, thrombocytopenia, and coagulopathy.

The hospital bulletin confirmed that he passed away at 9:08 PM on Monday. AIIMS Bhubaneswar, in a statement, said, “Humane Sagar (36) did not respond to treatment in spite of all aggressive and advanced care provided by an expert team of specialist doctors and expired at 9.08 pm on November 17.” He was admitted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on November 14 with “diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia, acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF), dilated cardiomyopathy with severe LV systolic dysfunction, MODS (multi-organ dysfunction syndrome)- refractory shock, severe respiratory failure, anuric acute kidney injury, encephalopathy, hepatopathy, thrombocytopenia and Ccoagulopathy”.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his condolences on X, stating, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of renowned playback singer Human Sagar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music and cinema. I convey my condolences to the bereaved family and pray to God for the peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti.”

Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also took to X to express his grief. “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Human Sagar. His soulful music has touched the hearts of countless listeners, and his contributions to Odia music will always remain memorable. Along with praying for the eternal peace of his immortal soul, I convey my condolences to the bereaved family members during this sorrowful time,” he wrote.

Who was Humane Sagar?

Apart from singing, Sagar also tried his hand at politics for a short time, joining the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to focus on cultural and youthrelated work.

He was born in Titlagarh, Bolangir district, and became very popular in the Odia music scene after singing the title song for the movie Ishq Tu Hi Tu, composed by Abhijit Majumdar. During his career, he sang more than 100 Odia songs and released albums like Tuma Otha Tale, Niswasa, Bekhudee, and Chehera in 2017. He also made a Hindi album.
