New Delhi: Months after Henry Cavill announced his decision not to reprise his role as Superman, therefore ending a decade of him donning the red cape, director James Gunn named his replacement: David Corenswet, a 29-year-old Netflix actor.
Corenswet, who has been in Ryan Murphy’s “The Politician” and “Hollywood” series, will play the lead in “Superman: Legacy,” which Gunn will write and direct. The film will be the first installment of DC’s ambitious 10-year plan.
The actor reportedly beat off Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney for the part. He will appear on film alongside Rachel Brosnahan, who has been cast as Lois Lane.
Gunn confirmed the castings on Twitter, saying: “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.”

Gunn previously stated that he was looking for a younger actor to play the superhero’s life path, both his noble Kryptonian lineage and his small-town Midwestern upbringing as Clark Kent.
Last year, DC Studios hired Gunn and veteran producer Peter Safran as co-chairs to revitalise Warner Bros., which has failed to compete with film office titans Disney and Marvel.
Around the same time, Cavill announced his return to the role of Superman. He then emphasised that he would not be returning and that DC Studios would find a successor.
