A legal battle has erupted following the death of businessman Sanjay Kapoor, as his children from Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan have moved the Delhi High Court seeking their rightful share in their late father’s estate. They claim Sanjay’s wife, Priya Sachdev Kapoor, changed or influenced his will and left them out, even though their father had earlier promised them a share.
During the court hearing on November 14, Samaira’s lawyer mentioned that her university fees in the U.S. hadn’t been paid for two months. Priya denied this, and the judge got irritated, saying she didn’t want any “melodrama” in the case and told the lawyers not to bring up such points again.
The lawyer representing Karisma’s children said, “Defendant No. 1 (Priya Sachdev Kapoor) owns Samaira and Kiaan’s property, so it is her responsibility to pay the fees on time. Samaira, who is studying in America, has two months worth of fees pending. Under the prenuptial agreement, Sanjay Kapoor was responsible for the children’s education and living expenses.”
“I don’t want to spend more than 30 seconds on this. This question should not come to my court again. I don’t want this hearing to be melodramatic. I put this onus on you [Priya’s counsel]. This point should not come again,” Bar and Bench quoted Justice Jyoti Singh as saying.
Samaira and Kiaan’s legal team also said Priya controls properties that belong to the children, so she should make sure their expenses are handled properly. They added that, according to the prenuptial agreement, Sanjay was responsible for the kids education and living costs. The judge said these details weren’t important for this stage and set the next hearing for November 19.
