The news of Splitsvilla and Crime Patrol fame Nitin Chauhan taking his own life has sent shockwaves through the industry. The actor was found hanging from the ceiling of his Goregaon flat on 6 November. A police official investigating the case has now revealed that the actor had been suffering from depression due to not securing sufficient work in the industry for last 3-4 years. His wife confirmed that Nitin was also undergoing treatment for his mental health issues.
“During preliminary inquiry, we learnt that Chauhan was not getting work since past few years and was in depression because of this,” said Ajay Afle, senior inspector at Dindoshi police station.
During the struggle period, Nitin tried to open a small business of ice-creams. However, it failed badly, making things worse for the actor.
Dindoshi police reported that Chauhan resided with his wife and daughter. On Thursday evening, while his wife and daughter were out in the society’s park, Chauhan allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a bedsheet. Upon returning, the family found the door locked from the inside. Chauhan’s wife attempted to open it using a spare key, but discovered that the door was also latched, heightening her concern. She then broke open the door and entered, only to find her husband hanging from the ceiling.
She brought him down and administered CPR, but to no avail. Nitin was then rushed to the nearby hospital through an ambulance, but doctors declared him dead.
The Dindoshi police has registered a case of accidental death and the investigation is underway. The autopsy report is also awaited.
The news of his death was confirmed by his friend co-actor Sudeep Sahir, who shared a picture of the late actor, and wrote “Rest in peace buddy.” Nitin’s colleague Vibhuti Thakur also posted a picture, alongside an emotional note that read, “Rest in peace my dear.. really shocked and sad… wish you had the strength to face all the troubles. Wish you were mentally strong like your body.”
