Nicki Minaj, the acclaimed “Super Bass” artist, is facing a lawsuit filed by Brandon Jovan Garrett, an alleged former employee, who claims she struck him during an altercation at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit last April. Garrett alleges that Nicki Minaj, upset over staff performance issues, smacked him on the face and wrist in a fit of rage. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, also accuses Minaj of verbal threats and emotional distress.
Details Of The Alleged Incident
According to Garrett’s complaint, the incident occurred on April 21, 2024, shortly after a performance during Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 tour. Garrett, who claims to have been working as her day-to-day manager, was summoned to Minaj’s dressing room where she expressed frustration over her staff’s handling of tasks. Minaj allegedly became enraged when Garrett assigned another employee to pick up her prescription, a task he claims he delegated while assisting Minaj in her quick-change room.
Garrett alleges Minaj verbally berated him, threatening his career and safety, before standing up and striking him on the face and wrist. He claims the force caused his head to snap back, his hat to fall off, and documents to scatter.
Reaction And Legal Claims
Following the alleged attack, Garrett says he locked himself in a bathroom until 4 a.m. before reporting the incident to the police and returning to Los Angeles. The lawsuit names both Minaj and her company, Pink Personality, as defendants, citing claims of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Garrett is seeking unspecified damages.
This isn’t the first time Minaj has faced accusations of physical altercations. In 2023, Minaj and her husband were ordered to pay $500,000 to a security guard in Germany over a backstage incident in 2019.
