Actor Manisha Koirala has shared her anguish and anger over the tragic crackdown on protestors in Nepal, calling it “a black day for Nepal.”
The heartbreaking voice of Koirala comes at a time when Nepal is experiencing one of its most violent uprisings in recent memory, primarily propelled by Gen Z citizens in the country demanding justice, transparency, and their right to raise their voices.
In the midst of this heartbreak, Koirala shared a haunting image of one bloodied shoe left behind on the ground. She had written in Nepali, which resonates with everyone across the country. The translated text reads: “Today is a black day for Nepal when bullets respond to the voice of the people, outrage against corruption and demand for justice.”

Her comments were impactful, particularly for the young Nepali people who have considered her not merely a star, but someone who speaks to them from the heart.
On Monday, the protests turned deadly. Demonstrators gathered outside Parliament in Kathmandu calling for change, when lo and behold, the unthinkable happened. The security forces fired into the crowds and shocked the country. At least 19 were killed, and more than 300 others injured, and the scene was complete insanity. Tear gas littered the air, rubber bullets littered the streams, batons struck the heads of those who once were protesting, and police showed up and began beating people with their sticks. Finally the army was called.
Minister for Communication, Information and Broadcasting Prithvi Subba Gurung said the reversal was decided at an emergency Cabinet meeting. “The Ministry of Information has ordered the concerned agencies to start the process of resuming the social media sites as per the demands of the ‘Gen Z’,” he announced.
