Actor Nayanthara’s documentary, Beyond The Fairytales, was highly-awaited by fans. However, just days before the release, it got embroiled in controversy following the legal notice sent by superstar Dhanush. Before the issue could die down, the film that shows her rise to stardom, marriage with love of her life Vignesh Shivan and obstacles in her journey in the industry, has once again attracted negative attention after a remark by author Shobaa De struck the chord with the audience.
Shobaa, a celebrated author and columnist, took to her Instagram handle to criticise Nayanthara’s documentary as well as the decision to monetize her wedding film. Alongside Nayanthara’s photo, she wrote, “Confession : i was not aware of the mega star power of the “Lady Superstar“, Nayanthara, till i watched the promos of “Beyond the Fairytale” on @netflix_in . I tried bravely to watch for 45 minutes, hoping SOMETHING would wake me up from the tedium of wading through dull clips of talking heads going on about Nayanthara ( born Diana Kurien ) and her incredible life.”
Though Shobaa appreciated Jawan actor for her personality, she continued to criticized the film. “She is charming, articulate, poised …and blah! But …what the hell… after this, many more stars will go for monetising their shaadi footage . Assuming she got paid for it.”
Fans Agree!
Under Shobaa’s post, several fans left their fans agreeing to her views that it was not a documentary but more of a marriage video. One of them wrote, “It was a marriage video and I felt cheated too watching the whole thing and palming it off as a ‘documentary’ when all it does is glorify nayantara without documenting any of the unsavory parts of her journey and I also thought Netflix could do better than allowing itself to be used as a monetizing platform for shaadi videos 🙈.”
Others also wrote, “I switched off after 5 minutes 😂the beginning killed it for me,” “agree your point .. why Netflix accepted to do this crap ? Are we here to pay Netflix for some marriage videos ?? Is it content?? It’s high time as a viewers we need to ban this type of contents.”
