The most talked and controversial Mohanlal-starrer film, L2: Empuraan is now available in OTT platform from today. Prithviraj Sukumaran-directed political action drama is streaming on JioHotstar, 29 days after it hit theatres. The film produced by Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies, the film is available to stream in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language.
L2: Empuraan is the much-awaited sequel to the hit 2019 movie Lucifer. The film has impressed viewers with its exciting story, powerful action scenes, and deep political plot. Since its release, both critics and audiences have given it good reviews. This has helped the movie become one of the most popular films of the year. The film’s editor, Akhilesh Mohan, has confirmed that the version approved by the Central Board of Film Certification(CBFC) will be the definitive version going forward. After its theatrical release on March 27, controversies surrounding the film’s content forced it back to the editing table on April second week.

After Mohan’s opening up, the debate regarding the version to be released on OTT has been settled. The original version of the film was released on March 27. The revised version of Empuraan has been out for 24 weeks after its release. The authorities have released the updated censor certificate confirming these edits. The film underwent More than 20 cuts during re-edit.

Empuraan’s theatrical debut was on March 27, 2025. It emerged as the first Malayalam movie to cross the Rs 300-crore mark globally, raking in an impressive Rs 325 crore. According to film trade portal Sacnilk, Reports suggest that the film has made Rs 265 crore gross worldwide from theatrical collections alone.
However, Empuraan’s journey to success was not without turbulence. The film sparked a major controversy on social media over its alleged portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat riots, leading to a heated public debate. In response to the backlash, the filmmakers removed 17 scenes.
