Mohanlal’s much awaited film ‘L2: Empuraan’ has drawn controversy since it’s release. The controversy erupted over certain references to the Gujarat riots in the film. Now, addressing this issue, Mohanlal has issued a public apology through his official Facebook account and assured fans that the film would undergo changes and the controversial scenes will be erased.
Mohanlal’s Statement on the Issue
Taking to Facebook, Mohanlal wrote: “I have come to know that some of the political and social scene in L2: Empuraan, have caused great issues to many of my loved ones. As an artiste, it is my duty to ensure that none of my films promote hatred towards any political movement, ideology or sect.”
He further expressed, “Therefore, the Empuraan team and I are deeply sorry for the issue caused. Understanding that the responsibility lies with all of us behind the film, we have decided to remove such content from the movie.”
The Drishyam actor concluded his note while writing: “I have lived my film career as one of you for the last four decades. Your love and faith are my only strength. There is no Mohanlal beyond that… With love, Mohanlal.”

CBFC Orders These Changes
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has also ordered L2: Empuraan to make 17 changes in the film. The CBFC’s regional office in Kerala has reviewed the film and suggested these changes to ensure peace and compliance between the people. The production team confirmed this and is currently working on these edits and if the revised version is submitted by Monday the film is expected to re-hit the screens by the end of coming week.
A Highly Anticipated Sequel
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is one of the most awaited sequels in Malayalam cinema and one of its most expensive productions till date. The film includes a star-studded cast with Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Manju Warrier, Jerome Flynn and Eriq Ebouaney on cards.
Fans are now eagerly waiting to see the final version of L2: Empuraan, hoping that the changes will not compromise the film’s narrative and impact.
